LIz Cheney pops up again as a consistent voice against what was once her own party. Her awareness of the dangerous slide toward autocracy caused her to be thrown out of the party even though she was one of the few who perceived events correctly.
Her current threat is to split the party with her being a third party candidate, specifically designed to take votes away from any despot to run in 2024. [Of course we all know the name of any supposed despots attempting to run in 2024, repeating it only creates nauseous results.]
In that light, she said she “would do whatever it takes” to prevent such an event of a certain despot’s advancing threat to democracy. She goes on in recent articles in USA Today and the Washington Post that the GOP “dangerously” supporting the wrong person and that her goal is to dump the losers who constitute the GOP by killing it off.
“I certainly hope to play a role in helping to ensure that the country has … a new, fully Conservative party”... “And so whether that means restoring the current Republican party, which looks like a very difficult if not impossible task, or setting up a new party, I do hope to be involved and engaged in that.” (Emphasis mine).
I have no problem with the death of the GOP. It would be fitting to “drown fascism in the bathtub” to rid ourselves of these toxic, dangerous bigots, misogynists, hypocrites, liars, hateful people. Well, you know who they are.
Bottom line is I saw the direction the GOP was heading in 2015. I saw the ascension of hate. I saw the rise of dictatorial rhetoric. I saw the events which preceded Nazism. That evidence of horror told me then, what the GOP was sanctioning and allowing and even funding, had to be destroyed for the benefit of humanity and the world. As time progressed, Liz finally realized the same.
Now, that doesn’t make me a fan of Liz Cheney. Her feelings about government and social responsibility really don’t meet mine, however, she is right about the damning of the GOP and the need to bury its sad existence and cover it with lime, add to that a silver bullet and a wooden stake after cutting off its head. Leave no chance it will arise again. That takes prosecution in court. That is happening now and the impact will do great benefit in process of killing the GOP.
Can the GOP be dissolved? The way they are working at it, the GOP is actively engaging in the party’s suicide. I say that because their antics show their ineptitude, ignorance and malign intent. How can a political party be legitimate if they conduct business as a “dishonest broker”? People notice.
The short answer is, they cannot. The GOP cannot be trusted to represent the country because they are dishonest. They are dishonest about their objectives. They are dishonest about their loyalties. They are dishonest about their very beings. The members of the GOP — as painted by the very broad brush they project — are dishonest.
For the reasons of honesty, the GOP must die. Oh, they could reform around Liz, but not likely. My prediction is that the GOP will splinter into even greater fragments, diluting any ability until it finally gets pushed aside. Who does the pushing has to be our next task, for the replacement cannot be anything worse that what we have now. That means total elimination of fascism and the hatred which underlies it all from power.
If the GOP wants a seat at the table, they will have to earn it. Now, they are deserving to be relegated to the “kiddie table”. Maybe we should gift all the GOP member with sippy cups.
