The 2022 Republican red wave never materialized. Three incumbent House Republicans lost their seats. A fourth, Lauren Boebert (R-CO), won by 546 votes — the slimmest margin in any House district. Now Boebert is looking at a rematch with her erstwhile opponent, Democrat Adam Frisch. And she is desperate for money. On Thursday, she tweeted her need.
She starts with a classic and meaningless ”act now”:
"With the end-of-month deadline upon us, I'm asking each and every one of you for help ensuring my campaign has the resources to win."
There is no November 30 deadline. It is in the same reporting period as December 1. More interesting is which campaign she refers to. (I will get to why later)
She makes that clear in her next sentence:
“If we lose Colorado’s 3rd District, the House is in MAJOR jeopardy of falling into Democrat [sic] hands.
Boebert is referring to the 2024 general election. She then drags in the usual Democratic campaign suspects:
“My opponent has plenty of funding from Soros dark money and even Hollywood liberals like Barbra Streisand and Ryan Reynolds.
At this point, if you were to use Republican math, George Soros has given between $1—$3 trillion to Democratic candidates — in addition to the Himalayas of cash he has doled out to professional protestors (I am still waiting for my check). As for Streisand and Reynolds, I find no record of contributions by anyone with those names to the Frisch campaign, ADAM FOR COLORADO. Perhaps they have given to a super PAC or a DNC/House fund — but I guarantee that Boebert does not know and has not done the research.
If she had, she would have noticed that a Robert Reiner, who describes himself as a Self-Employed / Film Maker/Director/Actor from Los Angeles, has given the maximum allowed ($3,300) to Frisch — I imagine that is Rob Reiner. Too bad Lauren is lazy, or she would have some valid ‘ammunition.'
She finishes with a return to her made-up drop-dead date.
“I need your help. I rely on your support for the critical November end-of-month deadline.
Boebert is being disingenuous. She says she needs money for her fight against the Democratic candidate. However, the vaping second-baser has a more immediate problem. Normally, an incumbent will be their party’s candidate in the next election — although this usual state of affairs has been less automatic since MAGA extremists have started primarying supposed RINOs.
Boebert is not one of these RINOs — she is pure MAGA. But she already has three primary opponents who smell blood on the water. After her Beetlejuice follies, even some conservatives have realized she is a buffoon. Who knows if Lauren will even get to the general election?
It makes a difference. Although candidates must designate whether donations are for the primary or general election, no matter how they allocate the funds, all the money counts against the $3,300 limit.
In all likelihood, Boebert will have to spend much of the money she raises now — more than she planned — to win the nomination. Therefore, she is lying to those donors who think they are giving money to the Republican candidate instead of a contender for the nomination.
I imagine many givers will feel cheated if Boebert loses the primary, and they find they will have to fork over more cash to support the Republican candidate.
Traditionally, it is guys who run into trouble because they cannot keep it in their pants. I suppose we could view Boebert’s theatrical shenanigans as an example of how conservatives fight for gender equality.
Not that I will shed a tear if the MAGA base has to spend money they did not think they would. After all, these rubes are giving money to a self-declared billionaire who promised he would not take any money to run his campaigns — and those donations are not even going to his campaign.
