The McChord Air Museum on the McCord Air Base near Tacoma, Washington displays several airplanes, including the Fairchild C-82A Packet.
Airlift experience during World War II demonstrated the need for a large-capacity cargo aircraft that could be loaded from ground level. Named for the packet ships that hauled cargo between coastal seaports, Fairchild produced 223 Packets between 1945 and 1948.
This aircraft has a top speed of 250 mph, a range of 2,140 miles, and a ceiling of 27,000 feet. It has a crew of five.
