From the time I was thirty I’ve heard, “You don’t look your age!” Now, factually, that is just a silly statement — I mean, how does thirty or fifty or seventy “look”? (Plus, I’ve discovered since I packed on weight after Covid, extra body fat plumps out the wrinkles wonderfully ;p) But rather than go into all that, I like to say “Thanks — it’s the perpetually immature attitude.”
I’m only half-joking.
Don’t get me wrong — I am, in fact, a perfectly functional adult. I brush my teeth. I pay my taxes. But. But but but. Look at all the silly things we do as adults:
We overwork. We worry. We “exercise”. We push ourselves past the point of exhaustion. We rush. We try to conform. We ‘re polite, even when someone is being, uh, that thing right under your pet’s tail.
We clean compulsively. We pretend to be invincible. We worry some more. We even worry about what others will think of us. And we never, ever seem to think we “have enough”.
And then we wonder why we’re stressed out, sick, run down, and exhausted...
Now let’s look at what pets do:
Work? Sure, when it’s needed… like for food:
Or pets:
But unless it’s for something important...
When they’re tired, they rest. Whenever. Wherever.
No matter how “crucial” the waiting tasks may be:
They don’t hide their emotions. Like, ever:
And if you’re getting on their nerves, you’ll know it!
“Exercise? What is this ‘exercise’ you speak of? ...Only humans could turn playing into something as boring as “exercise”. We don’t do that!”
When it comes to what they want, they don’t care what anyone else thinks:
They’re not afraid to meet new people:
Or admit when they’re scared:
Or need something:
Or have bitten off more than they can chew:
Conformity? HA! They revel in their uniqueness, and celebrate their attributes:
And they — well, whatever this is, it’s the opposite of worrying!
They embrace new experiences:
and never, ever EVER let a little dirt get in the way of a good time!
They transcend others’ perceptions of them without apology:
And when they’ve accomplished their aims, they are capable of deep contentment.
So relax. Take a deep breath. Don’t stress over that dust! And allow yourselves a happee:
Happy Thursday! What other things do your pets do that you’d like to emulate?
