The 2020 fake electors in Michigan and Georgia have been charged, the team in Wisconsin just admitted their crimes, and six fake bozos in Nevada were indicted this week. When Democrat Kris Mayes was running for Attorney General in Arizona last year, a race she won, she pledged to investigate the scheme here, and it appears we’ll see more activity very soon.
Arizona actually had two fake elector plots—one a bunch of sovereign citizen goobers and the other organized by the Arizona Republican Party. The GOP was very proud of their crime, documenting the whole thing and posting photos on their Twitter account. They smiled as they committed a felony, telling Republicans that theirs is the “only slate of 11 you need to worry about,” not the sovereign citizens and certainly not the duly elected and qualified electors.
The happy faces in that photo are probably not smiling now. Attorney Kenneth Chesebro, who pled guilty in the Georgia racketeering case, was one of the movers behind the overall fake electors scheme, and as part of his plea deal he’s agreed to testify against other co-conspirators.
Chesebro was in Nevada this week, and immediately after his visit six fake electors were charged. As Laurie Roberts points out in The Arizona Republic, next week The Cheese will meet with investigators in the Arizona AG’s office. Ooops!
Arizona’s fake electors have mostly laid low since details of this scam on America have trickled out. Their enablers and supporters insist they were merely a backup plan, casting Arizona’s electoral votes for Trump in the event that lawsuits challenging the election were successful.
As Roberts says, the “backup plan” excuse doesn’t wash in Arizona, as it might in other states, like New Mexico, where the document stated it was provisional in case the legal slate was rejected, which trump’s toadies encouraged. Arizona’s fake certificate says no such thing, claiming to be the duly elected slate “of the 54th Legislature”—state seal and everything.
Arizona’s scheme was headed up by former GOP Chair Kelli Ward, a conspiracy nutter and trump lackey whose phone records were subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 Committee. I don’t doubt there are a shit-ton of calls between Ward, Rep. Paul Gosar, and Rep. Andy Biggs as Jan. 6 approached. Both pardon-seeking Congressmen were identified by Jan. 6 plotter Ali Alexander as central to the insurrection.
Two other fake electors currently serve in the Arizona Legislature: Senators Jake Hoffman and Anthony Kern. Hoffman ran a fake leftwing group in 2018 that promoted Green Party candidates, and Kern attended the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, then lied about it. Fakery and lies seem to be their modus operandi.
