You have so kindly posted another addition to the biggest hiring boom in 13 years, yet here I am, still looking for employment. I have futily tried to tie my resume and cover letters to your job descriptions to no avail, so as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. I would like to start by telling you about my gap in employment, but I can not rationally explain it myself. I would blame my interview skills, but can barely remember my last interview. I would say I am aiming too high/low, but I have tried to apply for everything that my experience dictates, or anything up to 3 steps below, because honestly, homelessness is not for me.I have been told I do not have enough excel experience when you request 1-3 years and I utilized complex functions for at least 7.
Access, same thing, years of creating, running and fixing queries, yet not enough, I guess. Phone and Customer Service experience, I was a team lead in a phone group for 4 years, but have been rejected for all those.
So maybe I need to tell you more? Well, I grew up poor, so when I wanted a candy bar or something else, I would gather carraiges from the local deli and bring them back for trade. When I dropped out of college due to finances, I turned my barista gig into a phone job with a top 5 bank, where I taught myself enough to be one of 3 go to resources for top producers within my first 2 months, being the only person in my department without a college degree, which became a recurring theme. I moved on, when firms were making huge market timing settlements, to a regulatory position making sure we stayed in line with our prospectus. Now when you see something like this on my resume, does it occur to you why when there was trouble, they moved me in to fix it? Because when 2008 hit, yet again I ended up writing the response to our mortgage backed holdings, as well as setting up our new money market reporting standards to assuage regulators. See a pattern?
This is not me, I do not enjoy self promotion and I took these jobs because they needed to get done. Yet when I need a job to survive, I can not get an interview. I have no criminal record, no social network site issues (since I avoid them like the plague), and yet I can not seem to sniff an interview for jobs I already have had. It's like my experience is invisible. I find it all the more surprising when I hear jobs go unfilled due to "unqualified candidates". So maybe you will be the one to tell me you value skills and hard work, or that this is even a real job posting, because frankly, anyone who took 2 minutes scanning my resume and comparing it to your description could see that it fits, yet somehow another job will most likely go unheard from or rejected due to a lack of experience that is already right there. I can not even imagine what those without a background or who may have made a mistake must be going through. Maybe just one of you will be bold enough to tell the truth.
If you actually read this, thank you for taking the time.
